I was thinking about how Keyleth went to the Shattered Teeth after she lost Vax and it hit me.
It’s probably not that no one qualified was available. It’s probably not even that no one tried.
It’s probably just the fact that there, so far away from everything, Vax’s name does not carry as much weight as a hero, a figurehead or a martyr.
The Shattered Teeth may have been where she found solace because there, he was just a love she lost, and that was tragic enough. Her anger was valid, and so was everything else, because there it wasn’t a hero story.
It was her story.
